When the OnePlus 7T came out back in September, the slightly older OnePlus 7 got a massive price cut, putting it under Rs 30,000. With that price cut, what was already a great value-for-money phone turned out to be a bargain for premium phone buyers. It sold in high numbers and OnePlus got rid of the stocks. However, OnePlus may have learnt something from that, which is why a OnePlus 8 Lite may be on its way early next year.
You might be wondering that OnePlus will already have the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro next year. Then why another new addition in this series? Turns out that the OnePlus 8 Lite will be an affordable alternative to the OnePlus 8 in 2020. The leaked renders and information, published by 91Mobiles and OnLeaks, suggest that OnePlus might be interested in getting a successor to the OnePlus X from years ago.
From the renders, it seems that the OnePlus 8 Lite will be the most basic phone OnePlus will offer next year. The OnePlus 8 Lite has a flat display unlike the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. However, like its elder brothers, the OnePlus 8 Lite will have a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera in the centre. The display has thin bezels but they are thicker than that what you see on a OnePlus 7T Pro. The display is also said to measure 6.4-inches and could use an AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus 8 Lite
The phone doesn’t have any headphone jack but it comes with a USB-C port and a speaker grille. At the back, it tries to resemble the Samsung Galaxy S11 with its rectangular hump for the cameras. And there are two cameras to the back accompanied with an LED flash and the TOF sensors. While there’s no information about the cameras, we think it could come with a 64-megapixel main camera and an ultra-wide camera, with the additional sensor helping for the macro mode.
As for the specifications, OnePlus could go two directions. For the first one, OnePlus could simply stuff a Snapdragon 865 chipset and price it under Rs 30,000 (let’s say Rs 28,999). That could help OnePlus fend off against the Redmi K20 and the upcoming Redmi K30 series phones from Xiaomi. Or, OnePlus could be offering the OnePlus 8 Lite for close to Rs 30,000 and bump up the prices for the regular OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, thereby going on head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S11 series.
The second possibility could be an even cheaper option, with OnePlus settling for the Snapdragon 765G chipset and aiming for a sub-Rs 25,000 price category.
Whatever it is, it’s too early to believe given that this is just a leak that’s not yet confirmed. However, OnePlus is taking the game to the big boys of the smartphone industry and the OnePlus 8 Lite signals that the OnePlus 8 Pro could go up against the iPhone 11s and the Galaxy S11s of the market.
