Dallas, Tex. — Today’s Penn State football news is headlined by a number of stories that tell the tale of the Lions’ 53-39 win over Memphis in the Cotton Bowl.

Linebacker Micah Parsons and running back Journey Brown are the lead of most articles after both delivered headliner performances in the win. The sophomore All-American forced a game-changing interception and had a game-high 14 tackles while the redshirt sophomore back set a Penn State record with 202 rushing yards to go along with two touchdowns.

“Parsons was the best player on the field, finishing with 14 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups. He also helped deliver the game’s turning-point moment,” Mark Wogenrich of The Allentown Morning Call writes.

In other news, Lions247 spoke with receiver KJ Hamler and end Shaka Toney to see if either was ready to announce whether or not they are leaving school early to enter the NFL Draft or returning for a fourth season. As it turns out, neither player was.

“I’ve still gotta talk to Coach,” Hamler said. “So I’m gonna talk to coach, and then I’ll know.”

Added Toney:

“I didn’t commit to a big-time school. I committed to a 7-6 team and I believed in Coach Franklin, Coach Spence, Coach Pry.

“I’m one of the few products of my class left that joined a team that wasn’t a dominant team. I think we upheld the standard. We brought a lot of guys in and showed them this stuff ain’t easy. You’ve got to put in real work. … Our program is special and we’re in a better place now; where Penn State belongs.”

James Franklin made a perfect form tackle after he was doused with a Gatorade bath following the win, and you’ll definitely want to see that at the CBS Sports link below. Statecollege.com is one of many outlets with a closer look at Parsons’ big day, and Blue-White Illustrated has highs and lows from the win.
